Statement from Source Document / POA
Starting in 2026, City Hall and DCP will support the Council and other stakeholders in standing up a new 12- to 15- member independent Downtown Jamaica Oversight Task Force that would convene public meetings to share updates on progress toward key objectives achieved through their standing committees, to be defined by the taskforce. The Task Force will be assisted by an independent Facilitator that will provide meeting and communications management, internal governance, POA commitment tracking, and communications and outreach. The Facilitator will be responsible for liaising between the Task Force and city agencies. Updates would be on both implementation of major plan components and POA commitments, including capital project progress updates by the relevant agency, as well as other agency efforts related to committee topics.
The City will provide funding for four years for a Task Force Facilitator, and the Council will secure a facilitator that will then help organize the task force.
City agencies (including but not limited to senior staff from NYPD, DOT, DCP, DEP, SBS, EDC, HRA, DOB, DSNY, HPD, and DPR) will prepare for and regularly attend committee meetings and broader public Task Force meetings through 2031.
Funding: $70 thousand expense per year for four years
