Status Update

Since the rezoning's approval, SBS has held 2 hiring halls in the Jamaica Rezoning area with another planned for June 30th. Through the hiring halls, we invite our partner agencies to come and share not only their job opportunities but also any fellowship or apprenticeship opportunities with interested jobseekers. We will continue to invite our partner agencies, community boards, and local elected officials to share these opportunities as they become available to jobseekers.

Statement from Source Document / POA

Building on its "Jobs NYC" initiative, to bring economic opportunities and deliver workforce development services directly to communities across the five boroughs that are experiencing high unemployment, the City will support connecting jobseekers in the Jamaica neighborhood to employment and career development opportunities with tailored local hiring and workforce development events.

With at least one held yearly, these events will also connect jobseekers to the City's Workforce 1 system which maintains a vast network of NYC employers and provides individualized support to jobseekers including job screenings, interview advice, and resume development support. The City will work with local elected officials to identify appropriate locations and coordinate outreach, and with local community-based organizations around partnership and providing access to available grant-funding opportunities.
