Status Update
As part of the Mayor's Public Engagement Unit's targeted outreach efforts at Alvista Towers to connect eligible tenants with SCRIE and DRIE benefits, the team successfully canvassed the entire building in November 2025 and provided screening and informational support to all available residents. Based on the outreach results, seven tenants were identified for follow-up case management assistance.

HPD conducts public education and outreach on rental assistance for tenants in Jamaica who are older adults and/or have a disability. Through tabling and door-to-door canvassing of target buildings, the City will raise awareness about rent freezes available through the Disability Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE) and Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE).
