DOT presented proposals to CB12 in May; Refining proposal based on community feedback

Statement from Source Document / POA

To improve pedestrian connections to downtown Jamaica’s biggest and most historic park, DOT will develop an in-house funded Street Improvement Project that will improve pedestrian access and circulation to and around Rufus King Park. The project will evaluate potential improvements at the following park entrances:

Currently there are no east-west crosswalks between 89th Avenue and Jamaica Avenue, the parks’ northern and southern borders. Adding crosswalks at 90th Avenue on the east and west side of the park will provide more direct access for community members and will slow the high rates of speed achieved by vehicles driving along the park’s edge. The 89th Avenue crosswalk will additionally create safer conditions for pedestrians and park-goers by providing a dedicated space to cross mid-block between 150th and 153rd Streets.
