Statement from Source Document / POA

Working with Greater Jamaica Development Corporation (GJDC), DOT commits to provide feasible and practical streetscape improvements to this area. Standard elements in DOT’s inventory, including but not limited to bike racks and corrals, scooter corrals, lean bars and seating, and street trees planted in standard tree beds with steel tree guards where possible, would not require a maintenance partner. Non-standard elements such as planted areas, stormwater source controls, land scaping and trees in planters require a maintenance partner and are subject to a maintenance agreement. DOT will also study potential lighting improvements in this area.

NYC DOT and GJDC will also partner with NYPD on education and enforcement for this area along Liberty Avenue between Merrick Boulevard and Sutphin Boulevard. Targeted enforcement will improve pedestrian safety by deterring the ticketing and towing of vehicles parked illegally on street as well as on sidewalks, encouraging safer speeds and slower, safer turns.
