Statement from Source Document / POA
NYC DOT will create Vision Zero safety improvements between Merrick Boulevard and Sutphin Boulevard, the corridor home to York College and the Queens High School for the Sciences as well as industrial and commercial businesses. The proposed improvements include a concrete pedestrian refuge island, concrete median tips/pedestrian refuges, concrete and painted curb extensions, left turn calming treatments, and updated roadway markings along the entire corridor. These treatments will improve safety by encouraging safer speeds, increasing pedestrian visibility and yielding by drivers, shortening crossing distances with safe places to rest, and encouraging slower, safer turns.
