Statement from Source Document / POA

Building on a design proposed in the Jamaica NOW Streetscape Plan, the City will work with community partners to create a public space in the teardrop shaped area between 150th Street and 158th Street DOT will redesign the space to create a plaza with bus stop shelters, seating, plantings, and programmable open space and will explore the possibility of a concession. The work will also make the site fully accessible, upgrading pedestrian ramps and providing accessible pedestrian signals at 150th Street and 158th Street. What is currently overrun by illegally parked vehicles would become a public space that is safe to traverse and pleasant to wait in. Combined with the canopy replacement that is planned for Archer Ave, this project would transform the streetscape on Archer Ave between 150th Street and Parsons Blvd. As the space will require a maintenance partner, the City will work with the Councilmember and other stakeholders to design a space that is easy to maintain and sign maintenance agreements with local partners to help keep the space clean, safe, and functional.
